One irony with Comms professionals is that while we write stories and craft narratives for brands, and organisations about literally anything, we put our own stories on the back burner.
We sometimes create stories out of literally thin air and we’re really good at it. So why are we terrible at telling our own stories?
More often than not, we find Comms professionals with impressive levels of experience or maybe they work at organisations that seem interesting from the outside but they don’t have a single post about their career journeys on LinkedIn or anywhere else.
Some of us don’t have professional headshots or even worse, we post outdated blurry pictures of ourselves.
Comms professionals more than anyone know how powerful stories are. We need to use that power for ourselves. We need to tell our own stories and build our personal brands.
We need to be champions in our different spaces. Our stories matter and they can inspire, impact and influence but we must share them first.
Let’s meet our community member of the week!
Hello there, I’m Elvis Subor and I’m the community member of the week.
I live in Lagos, Nigeria and am currently the PR and Marketing Officer at Futuretech Group.
For some reason, I make very good jollof rice. Whenever I go visit my mom, she goes ‘Can you cook that your jollof rice?’
My favourite quote is this one by Tony Robbins: “You’ve got to be in it to win it.”
If you’d like to connect with Elvis or maybe try his jollof rice, you can reach him here.
We also have an interesting resource to share with you.
